Bokurano (manga) Review.

Probably one of the most depressing manga I have read. A seinen science-fiction manga written by Mihiro Kitoh. Narrating the story of 15 children and their battle against mechas from parallel worlds - where the survival of the Earth is dependent on the outcome of their battle.

Sounds like any other mecha series right? But as previously stated, this has to be one of the most depressing manga I’ve read. The psychology of the characters, how they are reacting to the situation they find themselves in - I actually found myself somewhat speechless, sometimes feeling the need to cry. I won’t go into much into detail on the plot, that is something you would have to experience for yourself.

Though the series can easily be compared to Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bokurano is easier to follow and less headache inducing - and definitely does not leave the reader going “what the fuck?”

The chapters are generally separated into the current pilot’s narrative, having a total of 65 chapters. Each section narrating the thoughts and reactions on the event of the current pilot, what is currently going on in their lives and their past - why they are like they are.

There is so much that can be said about the plot of the story, all of which are spoilers. It’s not a spectacular series, I’ll be honest about that, it does get a little bit boring every now and then - but you feel like you need to keep reading to find out more of the situation. Also check out ‘Uninstall by Chiaki Ishikawa,’ such a beautiful song.

(P.S sorry for my retarded typing - brain is fried from dissertation. I seriously can not make a coherent sentence, so excuse my grammar)

It’s a sad sad day.

Especially for manga lovers - OneManga is finally shutting down. The copyright infringement law things, the US is now going about shutting down these sites. Oh well how sad - I really could not care less about the whole scenario. There were ways of getting manga before manga sites were up and some silly law isn’t going to stop people from still reading scanlations.

I will sit and laugh as their sales drop even more - ok they were saying it is the results of these sites is the reason why manga isn’t selling well. News flash - people are less likely to buy manga they are not sure about, whether or not they would like the series. Everything would be fine for the big named manga such as One Piece or Naruto but what about the less popular manga such as Yankee-Kun to Megane-chan (which by the way, has not been licensed). But whatever, does not really concern me, I buy all manga I think is worth buying.

Work was somewhat tiring today, or maybe the fact that now I have sat down and rested - I can’t be bothered to do anything. I need to shift my arse to the library and finally start researching for the dissertation, which I’ve been putting off since April (lol). It will be alright, once I get started - I can’t be stopped.

Debating when I do finally leave my part-time job so I can concentrate on my studies - whether or not I should find another job like a night shift or evening job that won’t get in the way. Though I’m not really worried about money, I’m sure I will live without it - but it would be nice to have a regular income. Even something like £80 a month sounds nice, at least it’s something.

Most of my money generally goes towards travel and manga anyways. Manga I can do without - except I will buy any updates. Especially for Reborn and D.Gray-Man and probably One Piece (only 3/4 volumes behind now).

Anyways I’m sure there was something else I wanted to ramble about, but I going to go grab something to eat and shift myself to the library.

Ohhh I remember now.

Rokujo Chikage.

He is the most badass. Epically cool. Second sane most character to appear in DRRR!! (Unfortunately, Kadota scores first for the sanest character in the series)

After seeing many fanarts of him and finding out very little details about his character - I decided that I will probably like him. Anni Fiesta, translated chapter 1 of Volume 5. I’ve read the part with Chikage in like 8 times now. He is just awesome. I like him more than I thought I would, seriously, too awesome for words.

Anyways. Library. Bye : D

Rabbit Doubt Review.

Rabbit Doubt - also simply known as just ‘Doubt,’ is a psychological horror manga written and illustrated by Yoshiki Tonogai. The story follows a cellphone game known as ‘Rabbit Doubt’ - the rules of the game being there are a group of rabbits and amongst the rabbits there is a wolf. Each round, the Rabbits must guess who the Wolf is before the whole colony gets eaten.

Six players who arrange a meet up, mysteriously find themselves trapped in an abandoned facility - and find themselves in a real life version of the game, Rabbit Doubt. With one player already murdered - the five remaining players conflict with each other, accusing one another of being the Wolf. Eventually working together to find a way to escape - as they get picked off one by one.

I stumbled across this manga by chance, I was intrigued by the front cover -psychotic rabbit head masks - not exactly your normal front cover. I haven’t really read a psychological horror manga before so I decided to give this manga a go and to be honest, I’m quite glad I did.

This story is amazing, the way how the artist illustrates and pace the story - I was shuddering with anticipation and had to read more. Many times, I could actually feel the atmosphere of the situation, which in general is quite rare in manga. It has a Saw -esque feel to the story and despite having some really gory panels - I did not feel the need to laugh my ass off - something that usually happens when I encounter gore. The gore felt natural - not like in Kill Bill where you get a tiny cut and blood comes pouring out like a fountain - and sometimes, somewhat creepy.

Like most shounen mangas, the artwork is quite a pleasure to look at. As far as I am aware, the mangaka also illustrated one of stories for Ryukishi07 (the author of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni).

I’m afraid I can’t actually say much without spoiling the story. The only issue I had with the story - mainly due to the fact I over analyze things - I easily figured out who the wolf was and most (if not all) of the major plot-twists. Though despite this, I was on the edge of my seat and really enjoyed reading this manga.

Similar Manga: N/A (Sorry haven’t read many manga’s of this genre); Judge (written by the same mangaka)

Since everyone wants money, and many like myself who lack money (especially if they are materialistic like I am) always wishes they had something. Most things that are unneeded to live life; not important to one’s survival but still wants and needs.
